Colossal Mastering's owners and founders are Dan Stout and Barbara Nashold. Dan serves as Chief Mastering Engineer while Barb fulfills Colossal's CEO and managerial duties. Colossal's team works hard to ensure that your expectations for a top-quality mastering experience are met...and, we hope, surpassed.

Dan Stout is a ten-year veteran of the recording industry with experience in multiple facets of the recording process. He's also a musician with a diverse musical background, both playing and listening. Prior to co-founding Colossal Mastering in 1997, Stout was a staff engineer at Chicago Recording Company and Universal Recording before that. It was at CRC that Dan began to focus on his engineering field of choice, mastering. His ever-expanding mastering clientele led him to the decision to create a world-class mastering company in Chicago. Colossal has since attracted clients from across the U.S. and beyond in every genre, as well as serving Chicago's booming recording community.

Dan is a member of the Audio Engineering Society, the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, the Engineering and Recording Society of Chicago, and the American Federation of Television and Recording Artists.

Studio Manager Barbara Nashold brings to Colossal a life-long music background, including three years of studio management and production coordination with one of Chicago's premiere commercial music houses, Comtrack, Inc. Nashold received a degree in music and theatre from Monmouth College and has been singing for as long as she can recall. She particularly understands the difficulty of balancing the creative side of music with the business side. Barb works hard with Dan and A.J. to ensure that clients feel they are in a comfortable, creative, and professional studio environment while Colossal helps them to make their music shine.

Barb is a member of National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, the Engineering and Recording Society of Chicago, and the Screen Actors Guild.
